Kansas Antique Vehicle Bill of Sale and Title Requirements
Bill of Sale Requirements
Effective immediately, all antique vehicles sold on a bill of sale in Kansas must obtain an MVE-1 Motor Vehicle Examination. This requirement applies to all antique vehicles 60 years old or newer.
Procedure
To obtain an MVE-1, the vehicle owner must take the following steps:
- Complete a bill of sale that includes the purchase price or use Form TR-312.
- Present the bill of sale or Form TR-312 at the county treasurer's office.
- Obtain an MVE-1 form and have the vehicle inspected by a Kansas Highway Patrol officer or authorized mechanic.
Title Requirements
If you are using a Kansas title or bill of sale as your primary ownership document, you must take it to your local county treasurer's office to obtain a new title. The new title will reflect the updated ownership information and MVE-1 examination.
Antique vehicles over 35 years old are exempt from these requirements and can continue to be transferred using a bill of sale.
