Mississippi State Announces Change In Football Leadership

Zach Arnett Relieved Of Head Coaching Duties Effective Immediately

Proven Leader Now Analyst At University Of Mississippi

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State Director of Athletics Zac Selmon announced Monday that Zach Arnett has been relieved of his head coaching duties, effective immediately. Arnett has been named an analyst at the University of Mississippi, his alma mater.

"I want to thank Zach for his hard work and dedication to Mississippi State," Selmon said. "He is a proven leader who has poured his heart and soul into our football program. However, after careful consideration, I have decided that a change in leadership is necessary at this time."

Arnett was named Mississippi State's 35th head football coach on Dec. 1, 2021. He led the Bulldogs to a 6-7 record in 2022, including a victory in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

Prior to becoming head coach, Arnett spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at Mississippi State, including the last four as defensive coordinator. He was also the interim head coach for the final two games of the 2020 season.

A native of Starkville, Arnett was a standout linebacker at Mississippi State from 2005-08. He was a two-time All-SEC selection and was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2008.

Mississippi State will begin a national search for its next head football coach immediately.
